Charities can buy Cyber Essentials at a £75 discount from Indelible Data during October.
Charities month aims to educate the charities sector about the level of threat faced on a daily basis and is also supported by IASME, the Government’s Cyber Essentials partner.
Around a third of charities suffered a cyber security breach or attack in the past 12 month with higher income charities targeted most frequently.
Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment certification focused on five technical controls designed to prevent the most common internet-based cyber security threats.
Tyson McGuirk, a Cyber Essentials assessor with Cumbrian-based Indelible Data, said: “Every charity will inevitably have to store private and confidential information to do what they do.
“Cyber essentials ensures these charities are getting the basics right around cyber security, so people who use these charities can be confident that their confidential data is secure.”
The main areas of technical failure in Cyber Essentials Basic submissions are around unsupported Firewalls, mobile devices and operating systems.
Many charitable organisations operate on an ad-hoc basis for their non-technical controls and are therefore at greater risk of a breach
